What is a cataract?

At birth, our natural lens is clear, but as we age it yellows and hardens and eventually becomes cloudy. The cloudy lens is referred to as a cataract.  At first, this clouding doesn’t interfere with vision, but gradually began to impact how well you see.  Left untreated, cataracts can lead to blindness. Most cataracts occur as a result of the natural aging process, but cataracts can also form as a result of injury or as a complication of glaucoma and diabetes.  Learn more about cataracts. >>

What is Dropless cataract surgery?

Dropless cataract surgery is a technique innovated by Dr. Liegner that combines the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drop in a medication applied within the eye at the time of cataract surgery.  This means most patients never need expensive and annoying eyedrops for weeks on end after surgery.  For those who have difficulty instilling drops, this Dropless technique is literally sight-saving. What are cataract symptoms?

Symptoms that could indicate the presence of a cataract include:

  • Faded or dull colors
  • Problems with glare
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Halos around lights when driving
  • Difficulty reading in low light
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Frequent need to change your glasses prescription.

How much does LASIK cost?

For a limited time, our LASIK eye surgery cost at Eye Care Northwest is only $1,400 per eye.  We perform a completely Bladeless LASIK procedure, where two types of lasers are used to correct your vision.  The result is an incredibly safe procedure with proven results.  Learn more about Bladeless LASIK

Am I a good LASIK candidate?

LASIK is a safe and effective way to eliminate, or greatly reduce, your need for glasses.  The technology has been continuously improved for over 20 years, and has now reached a level of accuracy, safety and reproduceability that is considered complete.  LASIK can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, from low to quite-high levels.  LASIK is best completed as a young adult – under the age of 30 – so you get the maximum benefit of glasses-free vision before eyes begin to change again in your late 40s.  Still, if eyes are healthy, LASIK can be performed from age 18-70, based on the patient’s wishes. Can you help Dry Eye?

Dry eye occurs when your eye does not produce tears properly, or when your tears are not the proper consistency which causes them to evaporate too quickly.  Often, dry eye can cause the surface of your eye to become inflamed, leading to pain or damage to the cornea, if left untreated.  As a Dry Eye Center of Excellence, we offer several dry eye treatments, from simple to surgical.  We recommend you visit us for a Dry Eye Assessment and LipiView analysis, so we can diagnose the reasons for your dry eye, and discuss treatment options. Do you perform eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)?

Yes, Dr. Liegner is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and performs blepharoplasty eyelid surgery, laser skin resurfacing, Botox injections and more.  Ask about cosmetic treatments at your next visit. Learn more about cosmetic surgery >>

Dear Dr. Liegner & Staff,

This is just a short note to thank you for performing my eyelid surgery a few weeks ago. You did such a wonderful job – I am so pleased! I so appreciated your caring attitude and the compassion of your outstanding staff. Please relay my thanks to them as well. I have recommended you and your office to many of my friends who are considering similar procedures. Thank you again for all of your expertise and kind efforts on my behalf. I truly appreciate you! You have my sincerest gratitude.

Dr. Liegner, since you performed my cataract surgery, I no longer need my glasses. And I see far better as well. It is a blessing and I thank you for that! The professionalism displayed, from you and your staff is something that I will never forget. I thank you from my heart…and my left eye… for my sight.

Thank you so much for all the kindness you have shown to me during this process. Your caring demeanor always put me at ease in your office and your staff has been wonderful too. Driving is so much easier and I feel much more confident. I am so grateful!
