LASIK is the most popular eye surgery choice for treating low-to-moderate levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Its popularity is largely attributable to its proven track record. Since its introduction, LASIK has been an incredibly safe procedure, and bladeless LASIK technology has further enhanced its safety.
LASIK at Eye Care Northwest is always a completely bladeless treatment. Commonly referred to as iLASIK, bladeless treatment means two types of lasers are used correct your vision. During the first step, Dr. Liegner uses the Intralase® laser to prepare your eye for the laser treatment. Secondly, he uses the VISX® S4 excimer laser to sculpt your cornea into the desired shape for optimal vision. No combination of technology is safer. This equipment coupled with Dr. Liegner’s experience is a recipe that is proven to deliver excellent results.
Not only is the procedure safe, but it’s virtually painless and recovery is quick. Most patients see well enough to drive the very next day and are able to resume normal activities within just a few days.
Fast. Safe. Painless… No wonder most of our patients ask themselves, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?!”
PRK is the preferred procedure for patients that are not good candidates for LASIK because of certain eye surface conditions such as thin corneas or other ocular conditions that prevent the safe creation of the LASIK corneal flap. The main advantage of PRK is its simplicity. The results are identical to LASIK except that the healing time is extended an extra week or so.
In PRK, the very top layer of the eye is gently removed and the VISX S4 laser is used to resculpt the cornea. A special soft contact lens is placed on the eye until the surface layer has healed-usually in four to six days.
